Is Android dictating the terms in Smartphone arena?

Competition in the smartphone market is currently running like a rat-race. The 'runners' who ran it first are not always in the front league. Take Google's Android for example. The popular operating platform is certainly being chosen as the most powerful mobile OS by smartphone makers all over the world. It is observed that Google's two year old baby, Android has been consistently pulling the attention of all the handset makers, while the hero off late, Microsoft Windows Mobile OS is losing the smartphone race.

Android has revolutionized the tech industry with a whooping market share in both national and international economy. Recent reports also claimed that one of every three smartphones sold at retail stores worldwide, is equipped with Android. If we compare the last three quarters, Android has just outpaced other IT honchos who have also tried their hands on Operating mechanisms like Apple, Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, HTC, an d LG etc.

Since its inception, Google has seized around 50 per cent of the global smartphone market by unveiling its various Android versions like 2.0 (Eclair), 2.1 (clair, 2.2 (Froyo), 2.3 (Gingerbread), 3.0 (Honeycomb), 3.1 (Honeycomb), 3.2 (Honeycomb), and 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). However, the Ice Cream Sandwich is yet to release.
