Stock Talk: Why Google's Q3 earnings aren't nearly as bad as you might think

On Thursday, Google faced the embarrassing situation of seeing its Q3 financial results released prematurely. The stock tanked on the results, and Google asked to have trading stopped temporarily. I’ve already seen one story suggesting that the early release “wiped out $20 billion in valuation.”But let’s get real. The loss has nothing to do with the accidental release. It was someone else’s mistake, not Google's, and anyone on Wall Street knows that the real reason Google was trading

Fake Sony Nexus was fake

Well, the person who created the photos has come forward today, and it turns out they were indeed fake, as we reported at the time. But that's not the interesting part. What's astonishing is the amount of effort that went into creating a couple of low-quality images. Turns out the images weren't the result of Photoshop trickery alone, but hours of painstaking

Motorola launches the Intel powered RAZR i in France

Following the recent retail availability in neighboring Britain, Motorola has today made available for purchase the RAZR i in France. The Intel powered RAZR i is available on contract from SFR starting at €9.90, or SIM-free for €399 from selected retailers. We found the RAZR i to be a surprisingly competant device, with a decent camera and a bright -- if a litttle fuzzy -- edge to edge display. The thing that continues to concern is the off contract price. The RAZR i is a mid-range device

Jabra TALK BT Headset review

In the world of BlueTooth headsets, the Jabra TALK is actually achieving mediocrity at its height. I own several BT units from the Jawbone HD to my LG HBS-700 stereo headset, and the Jabra falls squarely in between. What you get is enough customizable parts to ensure comfort: two Earhooks, three Eargels, and the ubiquitous micro-USB charger. Setup and pairing was very easy and after initial activation, you’re up and running in under a minute. The TALK is largely indistinguishable from

Google mobile website gets new look? Not available everywhere yet

It seems that Google has decided to change up the look of their homepage for mobile devices. The new design introduces a side bar that is now hidden on the left side. This replaces the older top bar design that has a few of Google’s services listed in the “more” section. This isn’t exactly a revolutionary update, but it is more attractive and seems easier to use than the previous layout. The new bar doesn’t seem add any new web apps and Google services to mobile users, it is instead

Samsung Galaxy Nexus gets gesture area care of Open webOS

Last week the Samsung Galaxy Nexus became some kind of Frankensteinian abomination when the recently open-sourced webOS was shoehorned inside. As you can tell in the video, things are still very much a work in progress.Of course, since the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have any capacitive buttons, the software had to create a row of pixels along the bottom to detect

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has SwiftKey prediction built-in

A funny thing about SwiftKey. We've questioned, in the past, its strategy of forgoing deals with manufacturers to be preloaded onto devices (like Swype chose to do) and instead relying on Google Play downloads. It seems it's survived that strategy just fine, consistently remaining in the top 5 paid Android applications as well as spending its share of time in the top spot. But we've also seen it branch out a little bit. SwiftKey's prediction engine has appeared on BlackBerry, of all places.
